Our youngest team member Fathy knows all about the front line of AI developments and always surprises us with fresh ideas. His hands-on approach is something he picked up as a scout.
What area are you working in for LinkThat?
I’m part of the AI product team and focus on the ECCO tool, which helps service agents better understand a customer’s needs and improve service. I also work on developing new prototypes for new features or tools – both for internal and external stakeholders. I’m known on the team as the guy who posts new AI methods and releases on the Teams channel every day, always trying to integrate them or incorporate those insights into our products. I’m the typical lazy engineer and love to work on automating as many tasks as possible so I have less redundant work (don’t tell my supervisor).
Is there anything that makes your workplace special for you?
For me, the most important thing that makes a workplace great is the colleagues you have. I think that in a lot of companies that are successful, the teams are structured in a way that makes everyone feel comfortable in their environment and allows them to do side projects. That’s what I have at LinkThat.
What is the best thing about your job?
- Every day I try to find new solutions to problems and thereby improve the lives of very many of our customers.
- Complete freedom to build my workday in a way that I don’t have to compromise on my personal life.
- I can always try out the latest AI models and find out how we can use them in our company.
Do you prefer wild camping or a luxury hotel?
As a former Boy Scout, I have some experience in wild camping and being out in nature. Although I appreciate being out in nature, today I prefer more the comfortable and luxurious experience of a hotel. After many years of wild camping during my school years, I would now like to spend my vacation in a luxury hotel and enjoy the amenities and services that such a hotel offers. However, I have fond memories of my Boy Scout days and appreciate the skills I learned there.
The experience of wild camping showed me how important it is to rely on yourself and your abilities and how to cope even in difficult conditions. I value the connection to nature that I experienced during that time and think that it is important, even today, to spend time in nature and connect with the world around us.
Although I am more of a fan of luxury hotels today, I think it is important to have a variety of experiences and try new things. Who knows, maybe someday I will feel the need to pitch my tents and camp in nature again.
Do you prefer to write messages or talk on the phone with your friends?
Excuse me it’s 2023, you better write a message – unless you want to be yelled at. And please don’t do voice messages, it makes my blood boil. If you don’t want to write, then please just use the Speech to Text function that is available on every smartphone keyboard. I understand if someone prefers to talk on the phone, but in my case, I only get called when something really bad has happened.
Bonus question because Fathy couldn’t resist:
Who would win: Harry Potter vs. Luke Skywalker?
Harry Potter is a character from the Harry Potter books and movies who has extraordinary magical powers. Luke Skywalker is a character from the Star Wars saga who was trained by a Jedi Master and has the power of the Light Side, which allows him to send Force bolts and move objects with mind power. It’s hard to say who would win in a fight because it depends on how well each uses their magical or Force abilities and if the other is able to withstand their opponent’s attacks. But I would say Harry Potter, because he can use a curse.
